Yes, I spent 78 minutes of my life watching four babies.
Yes, it was mildly boring.
Yes, I am glad I didn't buy this dvd.
Yes, I am glad I watched it.

While this documentary wasn't the most interesting documentary (except for a few cute baby moments), I think it was important to watch. The cool thing about day in the life type documentaries like this one is that it gives the viewer the opportunity to see things and places they wouldn't normally see or experience.

In light of Selena's recent concert for UNICEF it was amazingly interesting to see the experiences of children in different parts of the world. In particular Ponijao's childhood experience opened my eyes to what it really is like to grow up in a third world country. Her's was the kind of story that made me feel very blessed for what I have. It really made me want to do something to help people who have less than I do.That is the reason that I would recommend this documentary. It's very eye opening.

Edit: I just realized this is probably the part of my review where I probably should post links for organizations where you can help. Since it is halloween I feel like Trick or Treat for UNICEF is completely appropriate. Here's the website where you can find out all the info on how to participate in the program:

Has anyone else seen this documentary?

What other documentaries are worth seeing? Let's chat!

I Love Monsters! Interview

Not gonna lie I love I Love Monsters!

Maybe you saw them on the band search

Check out our exclusive interview with Micah the guitarist and vocalist for the band!

Q- How would you describe your band to someone who hasn't heard of you or
listened to your music?
A- I Love Monsters is made up of four friends from New York City who play a mix of indie pop and dance rock. Our live shows are intense! The goal is to make you dance and sing along.

Q- What makes you guys different from every other band out there?
A- Our singer Brett's voice is very it or hate it, his voice sets us apart. Kind of like a punk singer fronting a pop band that's influenced by British guitar groups.
Our songs have memorable lyrics and big hooks. They get stuck in your head.
Q- What song of yours would you recommend to someone who hasn’t listened
to your music before?
A- I would start with "Heart/Beat," then "Spine," and finally "Practice With Your Heart." Those songs really showcase our range and our equal love of indie rock and pop.
Q-Who writes all the songs? Where do you get inspiration for the songs?
A- I write most of the lyrics. I'll usually start with a phrase or a melody and build the song structure around that. If I find myself humming the melody in my head while I'm on the subway or walking to work, then I know I'm on to something good. After that, I'll bring the idea into rehearsal and the guys will help turn it into an I Love Monsters song.
Q- What has been your biggest challenge so far as a band?
A- Being an indie band in New York City is very challenging. The NYC music scene is super competitive. I think the biggest challenge for us is continually finding new ways to get our name and our music out there. People have so many choices when it comes to figuring out a way to end up on your iPod mix is one of our main goals.
Q-  How did you come up with the band name?
A- We were walking down 6th Avenue and noticed a little kid with his mom. He was picking his nose and loving it. We saw he was wearing a t-shirt that read "I love monsters." The name definitely has a nice ring to it...I think there's a lot of double meaning behind it too which sort of compliments our songs.
Q- What has been your favorite show to play and why?
A- The first time we played Mercury Lounge in New York City. Its definitely one of my favorite venues to see bands in town. Its sort of a stepping stone for NYC acts. You know you're accomplishing something if you're band is booked at Mercury.
Q- How do you get pumped up for a show?
A- We usually eat Thai food or burritos! Also before every performance, we huddle up and say two words that get us pumped up. The words are different every show.
Q- What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about performing?
A- My favorite thing is the rush of adrenaline that comes right before, and during a show. My least favorite thing is how fast the set goes by. Our songs are pretty short and we usually only get 30-40 minutes to play depending on the venue. The minute its over, I want to play another set!
Q- Who is someone you would like to tour with?
A- We would love to tour with The Get Up Kids or Ra Ra Riot. Also Two Door Cinema Club would be amazing!
Q- Out of all the songs you've recorded/written which is your favorite?
A- Well I'm very proud of "Heart/Beat" and "Spine." But also "Satellites" and "Keep Me Guessing" really show off our recorded sound. As far as lyrically, "Practice With Your Heart" is by far my favorite.
Q- What do you hope I Love Monsters is doing/accomplishing in a year?
A- We are playing the 2010 CMJ Music Festival this year in New York which is really big for us. We want to continue writing new songs, play bigger shows, and hopefully go on tour in places outside of the Northeast. We want to grow our fan base. That's our main focus.
Q- Do you have any advice for someone who wants to pursue a career in music?
A- Make sure you have a good day job to offset the fact that its very hard to support yourself financially as a least in the beginning. Also make sure you're doing it because you love the music you are playing first and foremost.
Q- What has been your weirdest experience with a fan?
A- This older guy was really rocking out to our show once...he was flailing around and just going nuts! People thought he was on something...but afterward he thanked us for the show. He definitely need it.
Q- Who first inspired you to go after your dreams of music?
A- My dad taught me how to play the guitar. He also introduced me to The Beatles which led me to start writing my own songs. I owe my dad a lot.
Q- What yearbook superlative would you vote each member of your band?
A- Ha! I like this question:
Most capable of playing anything on guitar - Jeff
The nicest human being on the planet - Brett
Most likely to succeed in culinary school - Jon
Most organized - Micah

Q- What’s one quote or lyric that inspires you most?
A- "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end" - Dan Wilson

Q- What’s something your fans don’t know about you?
A- We all love thai food. We could eat it every night of the week.

Q- Any upcoming plans in the works for I Love Monsters we should know about?
A- Our new music video for "Keep Me Guessing" is coming soon! We're also going to be play a month long residency at the Ace Hotel in New York in November.
Q- Anything else you’d like to include about I Love Monsters?
A- You can download all of our music for free at:
You can also follow us on Twitter for more band updates: @i_love_monsters

Q- What’s your favorite flavor popsicle?
A- I'd have to say lime or orange.

Make sure to check them out. I love this makes me miss summer.

I Like Funny Commercials

Commercial #1. A- I love Old Spice Commercials. B- I love Sesame Street. C- This makes me think of Cameron Quiseng even though he's the Cookie Elmo and not Grover.

Commercial #2 The Geico Piggy Commerical. This pig is SO much better than that Geico.

Commercial #3 The woodchucks make me giggle. And no I don't have Geico insurance nor am I promoting it...I just think they make darn funny commercials!

Now that I shared my favorite commercials...what are your favorite commercials. Post them and I'll make sure to watch them tomorrow.

Knapp welcomes new artist Ashlyne Huff to studio for live version of Twitter's New Music Monday - Toby Knapp -

I was one of the fans waiting in the lobby!

World of Jenks- Why I Started This Blog

This quite possibly will be the deepest blog I will ever write and maybe the deepest commentary piece I will ever write. So expect to read this about 2 weeks after I start.

I've been watching World of Jenks since the series first aired earlier this year and since the show started I  patiently waited for the episode where Jenks enters the world of what it's truly like to be in band. Tonight was that episode. In the episode Jenks basically goes on the road with the band VersaEmerge during what seems to be one of the most grueling (and fun) tours a band can go on...Warped.

This episode was so awesome and inspiring in so many ways and it really reminded me of why I want to write and blog about music.

Ever since I went to my first real concert as a young adult last year I've really felt a calling and a need to be around music. Seeing as I have no true talent for playing an instrument, I can't sing outside of a car or a shower and my business sense is severely lacking considering my dad still balances my checkbook...writing seemed like the natural way for me to participate, but from the outside.

Up until that point I knew that I wanted to write, but was still unclear as to what I wanted to write about. I knew if I couldn't find anything I was passionate about my writing would never be anything above sub par. Trust me I've written pieces about books I didn't connect with or causes I didn't believe in and situations I knew nothing about. And while I fully expect to have to do some of these pieces sometimes I never want to have to write these pieces all the time. I want to spend my life being writing about what inspires and intrigues me and inspiring others to be intrigued by what inspires me.

There's two things that I really love about music.

One is the extreme interest I have for the musical, creative mind. Honestly nothing is more interesting to me than trying to figure out what makes people tick and why people do what they do and why they are the way that they are no matter who they are.  No personality type or career person, however, is more interesting to me than those who play, write, and perform music. Each musician or band is like a nice puzzle to figure out.

The second is the power of influence writing about music can have. I hope you've noticed throughout my blog that I don't bash and I don't talk negatively about bands or anything for that matter. There are definitely some bands and people who will never be talked about on this blog because honestly I would have nothing nice to say about them. But I totally respect them and their fans enough to go with the old saying "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

There's also the more positive end of things. There are  certain bands that will take up at least half of the posts I make every month.  I will try my hardest to make sure every single one of you 10 readers knows what they're about by the end of my page. Call it biased journalism or call it being honest whatever the label that's just how we work here at Tune Into L. And that won't ever change.

Back to least a little bit. What I love about his show is that he gives viewers a chance to observe and understand worlds and people they never would have had the opportunity to experience before. My goal for this blog is to help people understand the world of music, bands, and being a fan.

I think what makes this blog different is that it is run by and for true fans of music.

We're the kids that camp out for 12 or more hours to get a "good spot" at a general admission show.

We're the kids who are recognized by the band because we've seen them so many times at shows.

We're the kids who go to school tired with x's on the backs of our hands looking like hot messes due to the crazy concert night before.

We're the kids who spend our entire allowances or paychecks on band merch and tickets.

We're the kids who will defend and support our favorite bands until the end of time.

And we're the blog that hopes to make this all understandable for those people who aren't those kids.

-Lauren :)

I feel like I should say good night and good luck or good night and good luck!

New Ke$ha Song

Thoughts? Personally I wonder if she is actually capable of singing about something other than sex, glitter, partying, and drinking. I mean I guess it's good someone is making music for the clubs, but really how seriously am I supposed to be taking her songs? Or am I over analyzing her music?

Let me know what you think? Are you a Ke$ha fan? Do you love or hate the song?
