"Heart Means Everything" Exclusive Interview With the Girl Behind Just Kait

If I had to pick a favorite artist I would have some serious problems and then I would probably (most likely) pick this girl. If you don't know Kait DiBenedetto aka Just Kait it's about time you get on that. She's  one of the most real people in an industry where vanity rules and her music is just as good as her personality.

After you get done reading this interview make sure to pick up her new album "Here We Go Again" here.

Q- How does it feel to finally be putting out a new album?
A- It feels awesome. The reaction to it has been incredible so far and I'm happy people are as excited about it as me.

Q- For fans of your older music, how does your new stuff compare?
A- The new stuff is a little more old school. I went back to some rock roots
I have on some tracks and on others I stuck to my usually pop/rock/dance
style. Now its definitely got a mix of music for everyone.

Q- When and where will your new album be available for download/purchase?
A- Right now its only available on iTunes and but I'm hoping
we can get some physical copies soon!

Q- You had a big show on the 20th how did that go?
A- It was so rad. It's been a while since I've done a full band show so it was sucha good feeling to be back on stage with the band. The only bummer was ourguitar player Nick Diaz' last show, so that sucked but otherwise, it went great. I got to see tons of fans that traveled from all sorts of places. I couldn't have asked for more.

Q- What makes you different from every other musician out there?
A- I think what makes me different is I'm in this for strictly just the music. I dont care about being famous, or rich or anything like that I just love music. I love music, I love my fans and I really would do just about anything to make then happy. I like to go out of my way to make them smile or make their day. Some other artists out there right now get too caught up in this lifestyle.

Q- What song of yours would you recommend to someone who hasn’t listened to your music before?
A- Thats so hard. On the new album it would be a toss between Crash & Burn, Living Tonight, and Here We Go Again. They are totally different songs but they each have something that you'll fall in love with if you like rock, dance, and pop.

Q-Where do you get inspiration for the songs?

A- I get inspiration from everywhere. I could be walking down the street or laying in my bed. It really depends where my head's at at that moment I decide to grab a pen and paper.

Q- What has been your biggest challenge so far as an artist?

A - The biggest challenge has been putting up with the business aspect of the industry. It's really tough to find people who are in this business because they actually love music or because all they care about is money. For me, I just want to be able to play music for the rest of my life, but its hard when everyone in the world is trying to do the same thing. So all in all, the biggest challenge is finding the right people to have on your team who are in it for the same reasons as me.

Q- Who is someone you would like to tour with?
A- I'd love to tour with NFG or Good Charlotte. When you grow up listening to artists like them and they are the ones that made you want to pick up a guitar and play, those are the first bands that come to mind.

Q- Out of all the songs you've recorded/written which is your favorite?
A- To this day, Heart Means Everything is and always will be my favorite. The recorded version hasn't been released yet but the overall vibe of that song still gets to me. I get the same feeling I got when I wrote it  whenever I play it or hear it. Besides that song, Pretty Little Finger is my other favorite. Its so energetic and fun.

Q- What do you hope you’re doing with your music/accomplishing in a year?

- All I want to do is tour. Touring is key for me. I get to share my music with the world and meet the fans that keep me going. So touring and to continue releasing albums. Thats all I want, ever.

Q- Do you have any advice for someone who wants to pursue a career in music?

A- I sound like a broken record whenever I answer this question but I'd tell them to just do it. Dont let anyone tell you not to. The people that love you will support you and thats all you need. Follow your heart, always.

Q- How do you think being a woman affects your abilities to pursue
music as a career?

A- Being a girl makes it 10 times harder. When you're a guy in a band, all you really need to do is look good. As long as you're cute, you get tons of girl fans. When you're a girl, you're not accepted as easily. You have to work super hard to gain respect from other men in the industry on top of all the fans you meet along the way that would much rather see a band of hot guys rocking out. That doesn't stop me though, I just have to work twice as hard as the boys.

Q-Who first inspired you to go after your dreams of music?

A-  The first person to inspire me was my dad. He played music is whole life, taught me how to play drums, bought me my first guitar, all the stuff you need to start a band. He's the reason I wanted to be in a band because
I saw him in HIS band's when I was growing up. Definitely a huge influence on me.

Q- What’s one quote or lyric that inspires you most?
A- "Heart Means Everything". I wrote a song called Heart Means Everything, got a chest tattoo that says Heart Means Everything, and its a phrase I live by everyday. If you dont follow your heart, you've got nothing. Heart means
everything, especially when you're in music. You can get swallowed in this industry and you have to stay true to yourself, follow your heart at all times and you'll make it out alive.

Q- What’s something your fans don’t know about you?
A- Something fans dont know about me is I'm really into old school cars from like the 50's. I know nothing about them but I love looking at them and seeing them. This has nothing to do with music, but it true hahah.

Q- When writing a song what comes first the lyrics, the tune..etc?

A - When I write a song, sometimes the melody on the guitar comes first or sometimes the lyrics come first. It really depends on my mood and the atmosphere I'm in.

Q- What t-shirt in your closet best describes your personality and why?

A- I have this one shirt that has a crowd with all their hands in the air. The shirt just reminds me of the feeling the crowds at my show give me and it pretty much describes my life.

Q- Any upcoming plans in the works for you we should know about?
A- Right now, the new album was just released so I'm gonna try to book some shows. Then I'm gonna be releasing an acoustic EP out real soon. So that's something you can look out for.

Q- What’s your favorite flavor popsicle?
A - Blue! Those are my favorite!!

California Dreams Tour- A Visual Wonder

BY: Lauren Miller
On July 15th 2011 Katy Perry took the stage at Merriweather Post Pavilion just three years since she first graced the same stage during the Vans Warped Tour. The difference. This time she was much more well known and didn't have to share the stage with various other acts.

I had heard many different opinions of how Katy Perry was live before this show. Many were negative, but I decided to give her a shot anyway. While both of her openers were forgettable, Katy's performance was anything but.

Sometimes I wonder whether people know the difference between a bad singer and bad sound when they critique shows. Katy's voice was perfection on every song she sung.

While her singing was awesome, what truely made the show special were the visuals. The show was set up like a story book with Perry venturing through a candy coated world looking for her true love- the baker's boy along with her cat Kitty Purry. The story also made for a good distraction for the audience during her many costume and set changes.

The set very much looked like a vision out of Willy Wonka. Bright colors and candy illusions decked the stage making it feel like we were watching a life sized version of Candy Land. While her bra did not shoot out whipped cream, Katy did have a few canons that shot a watery/soapy substance that looked a lot like whipped cream.

Overall this tour definitely has the potential to be the best tour of the summer (yes, it was better than NKTOBSB!). Make sure to check out Katy's California Dreams tour when it rolls into your town!

Record Collecting for Girls: A Must Read For Any Female Music Lover

Record Collecting for Girls by Courtney E. Smith is an easy, fun, interesting read for anyone interested in the music industry, recording artists, or just music in general. Throughout the book Courtney Smith uses her experience as a former MTV music programmer to guide readers through the art of collecting music. By reading her analysis of different artists and songs readers can gain a clearer look into their own record collection as well as the record collection of potential mates.
A key part that makes this book interesting are the playlists found at the end of each chapter. Throughout Smith’s book she talks about several artists both obscure and mainstream. She gives us a tour of her own personal record collection and gives us the stories and people who influenced her to add the songs to her collection. These playlists help the reader to remember all the music they read about so they can be easily looked up and listened to.
This book gives readers everything. There’s some history of girl rock bands in the beginning, a complete discussion of what it means to be a fan of the smiths, and even a discussion about the difference between wives and groupies (with references to some of the most famous of the two).
Every music enthusiast and fan should check out this book when it hits book shelves in September.

Quote of the Day

You know those days when you get the mean reds?...Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany's. Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there. If I could find a real-life place that'd make me feel like Tiffany's, then - then I'd buy some furniture and give the cat a name!

Quote of the Day

"Meeting Your Musical Heroes is a real risk.
Sometimes it's better not to look
behind the curtain."
- Record Collecting for Girls By: Courtney E. Smith

For more on the actual book click here for my review. For now let's just focus on this quote.

I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of people. I've met a lot of bands and artists some of whom I've looked up to for a while and some of whom I just recently got into. I haven't been disappointed much, but occasionally there have been disappointments.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that there's a person behind that actor or actress or singer or whoever. Sometimes when we finally meet the person behind that public figure we are met with an unpleasant surprise. I'm not going to name names because that would be mean, but the important thing to take away from the quote is that celebrities are people too and that they're not always what they seem and they're not always real.

Katy Perry @ Merriweather Post Pavilion 6/15/11

All Time Low at The Sound Garden in Baltimore, Maryland

NKTOBSB Still Has The Right Stuff

This summer two of the biggest boy bands of all time joined forces to help fans young and old relive the glory days of the boy band. These bands are the New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys. The bands are also joined by American Idol favorite Jordin Sparks and up and comer Ashlyne Huff (through July 2nd) and Glee Star Matthew Morrison (July 3rd- the end of the tour).

From start to finish this show is one that is sure to keep you out of your seat and on your feet. Ashlyne Huff started the night at both my shows (Baltimore and DC) with her new dancey/pop off her brand new album Let It Out. Before you judge this young artist check out her talent for yourself.

Jordin Sparks follows Ashlyne and is good as always. Her voice is just as amazing and powerful as on tv. It's definitely good to see that all my phone votes went to good use.

Then there are the boys Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie, Danny, Nick, Brian, Howie, and AJ- the main events. While their music may be a guilty pleasure for many, the tour is more than that for most. For a girl who grew up on the Backstreet Boys seeing them live in person was like seeing a moment in time from my childhood. Other than a little wear and tear brought on with age, the boys and kids were exactly as I remembered them from my youth. All nine hung on every note perfectly and the choreography was as pristine and perfect as theirs had been decades ago.

Make sure to check out the NKOTBSB when it rolls into your town this summer. Check out

Quote of the Day

"Love, my dear Gigi, is a thing of beauty like a work of art,
and like a work of art it is created by artists.
The greater the artist the greater the art."
- Aunt Alicia Gigi

For our first classic movie quote I picked a quote about love from the great classic movie Gigi. In this movie starring Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier, a young women becomes friends with a rich play boy. There's just something about a movie about Paris that is both romantic and a must watch.

Quote of the Day

"Beauty is wherever you find it."
-Lady Gaga

Today's quote is from the MTV special Lady Gaga Inside the Outside which was a special exclusive interview with the mysterious Lady Gaga. I highly encourage everyone of you watching this special. Even if you despise Lady Gaga this special has something for you. I entirely believe that she is not full of shit. I think that the crazy outfits are just a part of her performance (she does have a huge interest in musical theater) and beneath that all she is just as normal as you and me.

I have no idea what part of the show this quote came from seeing as I texted just the quote and the title of the tv show to myself, but context might not be too important because the message is totally relevant.

I really believe that life isn't always going to be what you want it to be, but rather you have to find the fun or awesomeness in it.The same goes for beauty or looks. You might not always look like the super model that you wish you looked like, but you have to be able to find the beauty in yourself every day.

AVERY - "GO SCREW YOURSELF (GSY)" Official Lyrics Video

Check out new artist Avery's new song "Go Screw Yourself". This catchy f- you song is perfect for any summer play list. Her voice reminds me a bit of Demi Lovato and her attitude is a bit Cee Lo Green.

Listen to the song and let me know what you think!

Quote of the Day

Life's two important questions are why and why not.
The important thing is to know which one to ask."
-Shania Twain

This quote might be a little bit paraphrased. But I was watching the OWN channel this afternoon (don't judge) and Shania was talking about her journey around the country to refind her voice. She was talking about the different things she was doing and contemplating about and how it was important to ask yourselve why and why not when doing or not doing things or why things do or do not happen to us.

I really liked her perspective on life. Shania has been through so much and now she's working to rebuild what she formerly had. I think even for a person who hasn't been through as much heartache as she has it's important to look at the why and the why not. It's important to analyze why things are happening in order to understand them and to understand why they are happening to us.

Alright Rev Run moment over for the day. Come back tomorrow for another amazing quote!

I Love Boobies!

By: Lauren Parks

I Love Boobies has increasingly become a saying seen on many bracelets this past year all over the country. You see the bracelets in many different colors such as pink, bright green, blue, and purple. Some even have other sayings such as “Love Your Boobies” or “Check Yourself”. It has seem this bracelets have mad quite a stir as to what the message is behind these bracelets and why youth are wearing them.  These bracelets are made by the Keep A Breast foundation and the money made from these bracelets goes to the foundation

Keep - A - Breast is  non-profit organization founded by Shaney jo Darden and Mona Mukheriea-Gehrig. It is a foundation that is that is dedicated to reaching out to youth about early prevention, detection, and support about breast cancer. They do this by reaching youth at things such as art events, concerts and festivals, and educational programs so that youth can take the  information to make decisions that will have a positive effect on their health. They don’t only have bracelets, they also have t-shirts, stickers, lanyards, hats, and bags that you can get to help spread the word.

They have a traveling tour bus that goes on different tours with different bands or festivals to educate the youth at these concerts about how they can get involved and spread awareness. They are currently on the Zumiez Couch Tour, and have been on the Dirty Work Tour, Journey’s Back Yard BBQ Tour, and the Willie Nelson Country Throw Down Tour. Later this summer they will have booths set up and the Vans Warped Tour. So be sure to check out their booth if you see them at any of your summer and future concerts.

To learn more about Keep - A - Breast you can go to these following sites:

Also, comment on this story with an email address we can contact you at and follow Keep - A - Breast on Twitter to be entered to win a prize pack that consists of an “I Love Boobies” bracelet, lanyard, sticker, and the current copy of the Keep - A - Breast ambassador magazine!

Winners of the Prize Pack will be chosen at the end of the month (June 30th).

DISTURBING USA! Great new interview w/Tinie Tempah

Quote of the Day

Hey When You're Feelin' Low
And You Just Wanna Start Over
Gotta Look Inside Your Soul
And Fight It Like A Soldier
Get On With The Show
Let The Rhythm Bring You Closer
Music Sets You Free So
Just Let It All Out
-"Let It Out" Ashlyne Huff

I know I've missed a few days of this quote of the day thing, but I'm starting back up with a really good one! As you should know Ashlyne Huff's album Let It Out dropped yesterday so I decided to pick a few lines from the title track of the album to be my quote for today. If you have an extra few cents on your iTunes account please be sure to pick up the album (or just the song).

I really like this song and quote because I think it really explains the awesome feeling one feels when listening to a really good song or seeing a really good performance.
