New Brag Book Post!

Check this out! Our friend Jordan Tolmie had the opportunity to meet Pat Monahan from Train when she was in Pittsburgh!

"I got to meet Pat Monahan, from Train, when I stopped in Pittsburgh PA on August 6th. My family and I literally ran into him and another guy from the band in the streets as they were walking back to their hotel that afternoon. and later that night was a baseball game with a free Train concert when they came on the field with fireworks."

We Own The Night Tour Episode #3

Taylor Swift Speak Now Tour- Every Girl's Dream

BY: Lauren Miller

On August 3rd I had the opportunity to go to Taylor Swift's latest tour the Speak Now tour. Now I'm not the biggest fan of Taylor Swift, but I respect her for what she does and the music that she creates that speaks to so many people. So when she decided to come to town I knew I needed to see her live. I wanted to see all the hype for myself- live and in person.

One word comes to mind when I think back to my show in August and that word is girly. The physical aspects of Taylor's show were just completely unbelieveable and so intricate. They all were straight out of a fairytale story book. With every set and costume change it was like Taylor was giving us the physical representation that she imagines when writing every song. There was confetti snow for Back to December,  there was a beautiful wedding scene for Speak Now, there was a rickedy shack for Mean, there was a magical looking tree for her acoustic set, and there was a floating balcony for Love Story. You can see from some of my pictures just how magical and beautiful the show was.

Now for the reason why people go to concerts- to hear music. Taylor exceeded my expectations in this aspect. I never really thought she was that good of a live singer. Sure she does a heck of a lot better than I would ever do, but she's still never struck me as the best singer ever. But she definitely proved me wrong. Her voice live was just the same as her voice on her albums.

There's only one thing I could think of that I would change about this tour. Everything was pretty much perfect, but I would have liked to have heard some of her older songs too. I know that this was the Speak Now tour and that she was touring to support new album, but it would have been cool to hear a few more of her first and second album songs. While she did play Our Song from the first and Love Story from her second as someone who had never seen her before I would have loved to have heard maybe a medley of a few old songs.

There's still a few dates left on the North American leg of Taylor's Speak Now tour. If it rolls into your town and you love fairy tale endings and pretty dresses definitely hit up this girl's tour and see why everyone falls musically in love with this girl.

NKOTBSB Part 3

BY: Lauren Miller

Yeah, that's right I said part 3. I officially saw the New Kids on the Block & Backstreet Boys tour three times this summer. I went into the first show not knowing anything about the NKTOB (except that Donnie Wahlberg is a hottie) and let's be honest I was always much more of an N'SYNC fan. But I went into the first show because my girl Ashlyne Huff was opening for them. I ended up loving the show so much that I had to see it in DC and Hershey as well.

The Hershey show was one of those bitter sweet moments. It definitely felt like the ending of my summer I was so sad when the show started because I just did not want this pop music experience of a lifetime to be over.

I know you've all read my praise for the NKOTBSB tour twice before so we'll make the review part of this blog simple and say these boys are amazing life. Their show has an unmatched energy and they have a way with connecting and making the whole crowd fall in love with their respective bands all over again.

The two things you haven't read a review of are Midnight Red and Matthew Morrison- the new openers for the second half of the tour.

Midnight Red was up first and let me tell you these guys were cute. I actually saw one of the guys walking around outside before the show and I thought he was an out of place band boy from one of the shows I usually go to (actually I was hoping he was Donnie Wahlberg’s son or something). These boy seriously looked like Allstar Weekend or something and then they broke into choreographed boy band music. It was like heaven. But heaven only lasted for so long. The guys only got to play a 2 or 3 song set. And apparently they did a meet and greet, but I didn’t find out about it until after the fact or else I totally would have met these guys!
Next up was Matthew Morrison, you may know him as Mr.Schuester. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Matthew’s set. I don’t really watch Glee and honestly I didn’t even know he did music. His set was a little corny. It was a little too show tuney for me. I know that boy band music is essentially corny and lame in its own right, but this was just a little too much for me to handle. It’s not like Matthew was bad because he certainly had a voice, his set just wasn’t for me. Maybe for a Glee fan this set would have been awesome, but for me it fell a little flat.
Of course the main act New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys did not disappoint. I think in this case third time was definitely the charm. I had the perfect seat. It was right behind the VIP seats right near the end of the cat walk. The best part was when Donnie came out during tonight and danced and walked right in front of me and I got to hold his hand twice! The second best part was when the Backstreet Boys came out from the sides and Brian and Howie both walked right near where my seats were.
This was also the show where I finally got to see the end of the show. For the past two shows I would go out and see Ashlyne at her Meet and Greet, but at this show I finally got to hear and see Don’t Turn Out the Lights live and in person as well as the encore.
If my instinct is correct I believe these boys will be touring together sometime in the future (if you check the tweets between the New Kids and the Backstreet Boys it seems as though something is in the works). If so not only should you expect more pictures and videos from future shows, but you should also check out a show. You won’t be disappointed and your money will be well spent!

Demi Lovato Acuvue Inspire Award

Last night Demi Lovato received what might have been the best award of the night at the Teen Choice Awards. Sure Taylor Swift got the ultimate Teen Award, but Demi got the inspire awards for inspiring teens everywhere to believe in themselves and believe that Love Is Louder.

I Love Selena Gomez Like A Love Song, Baby

BY: Lauren Miller

I really wanted to do one wrap up review of the Teen Choice Awards, but maybe it's time I do a mid award show rant. Since it looks like my entire time line is full of people hating on her, I have to defend my girl Selena.

#1 Winning Awards

Ok, I get how huge that would have been for Allstar Weekend to win choice love song. Amazing. I would have been so proud to see a band I've been following for over a year win a national, televised award. It would have been huge. But, obviously they weren't going to win. And I mean isn't it a big honor to have been nominated in the first place?

#2 Her Performance

So, Selena isn't the best vocalist ever. She certainly isn't giving Adele a run for her money. BUT Selena literally just started this singing thing, professionally anyway. In the last year that she's been serious about it with Selena Gomez and the Scene she has gotten SO much better.

Regardless of whether she's a good singer Selena is one of the sweetest girls in the business. Everyone always gives her such a hard time for being a fame whore, for being untalented, for being a slut; someone on my timeline said it best the girl can't even sneeze without getting hate. And it's seriously so true!

How would you feel if every time you attempted to do something, or showed up somewhere, or a picture of you showed up in a magazine people talked smack about you? I'd feel pretty crappy about myself. I'd be feeling even more crappy about myself if I was the one talking crap about her.

Rant over, for now. Are there any artists out there that you think don't get the love they deserve? Show them some love here!

Delena at the Teen Choice Awards 2011

It makes me so happy to see these two BFFS together just like old times. Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Teen Choice Awards 2011.

And it makes me happy to see Demi so happy. That girl deserves all the success in the world.

What are some of your favorite moments from the Teen Choice Awards tonight?

I Survived!

Warped Tour at Columbia, Maryland in Review
BY: Lauren Miller

This summer I attended my first ever Vans Warped Tour show. I had no idea what to expect from the infamous all day music festival -except for sunburn, which I got!

I was kind of bummed that I was starting my Warped attending with this year because I honestly only knew like three bands on the tour, and from what I previewed of the other bands I wasn't so sure the line up was for me. I took some advice from some friends and just went with it. I'm glad I did for several reasons.

All the chaos started at the drive down. The line of cars for the exit was like a mile long. Luckily I conquered that exit; I don't know if I could have contained my excitement that long. When I pulled into the parking lot I had never seen that many half naked teenagers in once place at one time in my life.

Commentary Break: Why even bother wearing clothes?

Sometimes I wonder if girls think. And further if parents think since 95% of these girls were under 18.

I understand that it's hot out. I understand girls want to look hot out. But seriously considering most of the people attending Warped are drunk or stoned males I personally wanted to cover up just a little bit so as not to get molested. Maybe that's just me.

Furthermore what's with these girls crowd surfing in string bikinis? Don't girls have ANY respect for their bodies/selves any more?

End Commentary Break

The whole day was just a swarm of so much activity to soak in. If you're a fan of people watching, Warped provides for some of the most interesting characters out there. But this blog is about music, not people watching, so moving on.

I think the biggest thing I really got out of Warped is how awesome music is. How dumb is that statement? But really, it was so cool to see so many different kinds of music (sure most of it was screamo, but there was also some alternative & pop in there) playing in one place. All the bands and crew and support and everyone on this tour really gained some huge respect from me. I mean I saw a guy showering with a "solar shower" aka a plastic bag with a tube outside and that was his shower for the day. To take a shower like that is some extreme dedication to one's art.

I also really took away that other genres are just as cool as my favorites. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to go out to a screamo fest tomorrow, but it was really eye opening to watch D.R.U.G.S.'s set. The way that they draw, keep, and entertain a crowd is just fantastic. The only other band that filled almost the entire ampitheater with fans was Simple Plan. As artists I have a new respect and idolization for these bands of other genres.

Overall, if you haven't been to Warped I highly recomend it for any lover of music. For $40 you get a sea of music and interesting people. There are dozens of opportunities to meet the bands and rub elbows with band members in the crowds. Even if you think the line up isn't for you I venture to say that it is smart to go for even half a day just to look around and feel the experience. But take my advice and lather on the suncreen. Almost two weeks later and I am STILL peeling from my Warped sun burn.

Did you attend Warped Tour this year? Let us know what your favorite moment was or your favorite performance you saw.
